Children and the habit of lying !

Most of the parents are extremely worried about their children’s behavior and this comes naturally to them. They get started when they find out that their child has started lying to them. However they have almost no insurance against these things as they send their children out into the world. Kids go to school and that is the first time they go out into the real world and come in contact with distinct type of people. Kids are naturally inclined towards notorious things such as lying and they learn it from other children and from the media as well.

Let's face the truth: Lying is an inseparable part of human nature and most of us have lied at some point in our life. Therefore little children quickly get attracted to the habit of lying. Well, if your child has developed the habit of lying then do not panic as panicking would not improve the situation even a bit. You must understand one thing that being strict with the child would worsen the situation as it would provoke the child to use lies as a defense mechanism. The best thing that you must do during such a situation is to handle it with patience and caution. Experts from Montessori School of Silicon Valley suggest that you must treat your child with love and you must talk to him/her about it very calmly. Try to find out the reason that has pushed your child into lying. Try to find the root cause and try to resolve it.

You must be clear about the fact that scolding, humiliating and being harsh with the child is not at all the solution of this problem. It would just scare the child and he/she would cling to the habit of lying even more tightly!

Therefore MSOSV provides you with some simple ideas which can help you motivate your child really well.

1.       Trust them.
When a child tries anything new the first thing he expect is to trust on him. If you show trust in him he feels more confident and able. He keeps the next step with optimism and sensibility. This can help him to develop confidence, calmness and courage.

2.       Educate them about consequences calmly.
Taking decisions impulsively can only lead to unwanted and undesired consequences. Without discouraging them, tell them to think about consequences before taking a step. Tell them to always brainstorm their ideas with elders. Be friendly with them so that they can ask you for permission or consent. This will educate children about the significance of decision making. Also this will guide them about the importance of elder’s role. They will get encouraged by the interest you will take in their small as well as big decisions.

3.       Be patient and teach them patience too.
Patience as they say is the key to success. Teach them how to be patience by understanding them you can get better with patience rather than rushing for anything. This will encourage them to acknowledge the power of patience.
